Conservation & Restoration

An Evolving Estate

Mannington Hall sits at the heart of a historic estate where house, gardens and landscape have evolved together over many centuries.

First recorded in 1460, the moated Hall remains a rare survival of a late-medieval manor house, set within a landscape shaped as much by working life as by careful design.

Today visitors are invited to explore the estate at their own pace. A network of walking routes leads through parkland, woodland and water meadow, and around the lake, offering changing views of the Hall, gardens and wider countryside throughout the seasons.

The drawbridge, historic drive and chapel garden mark places where architecture and landscape meet, reflecting how Mannington has grown and adapted over time.

Mannington continues to be a lived-in and active place. Alongside the historic house and gardens you will find the café, visitor centre and plant shop, helping support the care of the estate while keeping it open and welcoming.

Whether you are here for a short walk or a longer visit, we hope you enjoy discovering Mannington.

Caring for Mannington Hall

Mannington Hall is currently undergoing important conservation and restoration work to safeguard the historic building for future generations.

Historic buildings require continual care. Repairing roofs and stonework, caring for historic timber and managing water around the moat are all essential to protecting the long-term fabric of the Hall and its setting.

Specialist conservation architects, engineers and craftspeople are working carefully to carry out these repairs while preserving the character and history of the building.

You may notice scaffolding or conservation works during your visit as this work takes place.

The Story Continues…

Mannington has always evolved.

Alongside the restoration of the Hall, the wider estate continues to develop as a place where landscape, nature and community come together.

Visitors today come to enjoy gardens, wildlife habitats, walking routes, seasonal events, workshops and family experiences, all set within the historic landscape of the estate.

The work taking place today is simply the next chapter in Mannington’s long story of care and stewardship.

Supporting the Estate

Every visit contributes to the long-term stewardship of Mannington.

Income from visitor admissions and parking helps support the care of the gardens, wildlife habitats and historic buildings across the estate.
